When I started Brick City Scents in 2020, I wasn't thinking about building a business. I was thinking about my family.
Like so many of us, I watched loved ones struggle with sensitive skin—the redness, the irritation, the endless search for products that wouldn't cause a reaction. Store-bought soaps and bath products promised relief, but their ingredient lists told a different story: harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and additives that did more harm than good.
So I did what any determined person would do: I rolled up my sleeves and started creating my own.
A Kitchen Experiment Becomes a Mission
What began as small batches of handmade soap in my kitchen quickly became something more. I experimented with natural ingredients like olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and colloidal oatmeal—gentle, nourishing ingredients that actually worked. My family members with sensitive skin finally found relief. Their dry skin improved. Their eczema calmed down.
And they weren't the only ones who noticed.
Friends asked if I could make products for them. Then friends of friends. Before I knew it, I was crafting soaps, body butters, bath fizzies, and eventually my signature 100% soy wax wooden wick candles—all made with the same care and attention I'd give to products for my own family.
Why Natural Matters
Here's what I learned on this journey: your skin deserves better. It's your body's largest organ, and what you put on it matters just as much as what you put in it.
That's why every Brick City Scents product is:
- Handmade in small batches to ensure quality and freshness
- Made with natural, toxin-free ingredients that nourish rather than irritate
- Crafted for sensitive skin because I know firsthand how frustrating the search for gentle products can be
- Created with intention from our wooden wick candles to our kaolin clay soaps
From My Hands to Your Home
Today, Brick City Scents has grown beyond my kitchen. You'll find us at local New Jersey craft fairs and markets, where I love meeting customers face-to-face and hearing their stories. Our products are in brick-and-mortar stores and online shops. But no matter how much we grow, one thing will never change: every product is still handmade with the same care I used for my family.
